This quarter mile square community had its beginning when Charles Gray built a homestead in 1885. Streets and block were mapped out in the 1890’s by Gray and neighbors, naming it after him. In the 1920’s, the Butler Family purchased most of what is now Grayton Beach. The State of Florida purchased the land north and west of Grayton Beach’s boundaries in 1985.
